Ah - at last we see our goal - the plateau up to the left there - we were to set up our base camp some ten miles further down this track. At this point we had already done about fifteen miles of much worse track than shown on... cont below... |

...this image. The young Kurdish kids can be seen running in glee to see what the hell was approaching ! It was this track, combined with that radiator we stuck on the front of the bus, that was to be the death knoll to our bus - took out the drain plug stuck right on the base of the rad (yes, I know, should have thought ! ) Shame - but made for an interesting journey home 3 months on by turkish bus from Tehran to Munich - four days, 38 pounds inc. free food, rough roads, very few toilets. My stomach hed settled by then ( we had all contracted a form of dysentry - luckily we had a doctor with us ) so I quite enjoyed it - others certainly did not. |
