Base camp - bus was about quarter mile away, just couldn't get it any further. You can just see the continuation of the track on the right. There were evidence of leopard kills - mules, dogs etc and the 2nd day saw one just up on...

...head of the gorge. Weird feeling to be camping with leopards around ! Does not help when someone suggets that a sleeping bag full of bare flesh must have the same sort of texture as a goat - sort of furry on the outside, then meat - a few sleepless nights we had by all.
Actually, these were rare persian leopards, or lynx I think and we we very privilaged to see a couple. Later, at the top camp we saw evidence of large bears overnight - about ten inch long footprint. Didn't see one - though I have recently checked references to the wildlife of this region and there is no mention anywhere of large bears. That didn't help either - as we spent most of our days exploring every cave entrance we could find !
