It's a long way across Turkey - but you can't get lost. Just take the one road - it goes east. Trouble is, the coolest time to drive is early morning - dawn start, but you have the sun constantly in your face - and these roads were dusty. Mostly tarmac now I think - sights like this were common place. While stopped here the temp in the bus got to 170 farenheight. cont below. |

Eastern Turkey is a strange place - you travel a 100 miles with nothing, then come to a village that almost exclusively repairs metal things. Strange ! Never worry about an old motor in Turkey - very inventive mechanics. Not so sure about our 'chip' controlled new breed of motors now though. There's a hell of a lot of it off the road as well - I'm sure there are plenty of places away from the tarmac where no Westerner has ever been ! It's around about here that you begin to feel the 'antiquity' of the place. After all, you are heading for Tigris and Euphrates country ! |
